Cary Elwes Information
Ivan Simon Cary Elwes (October 26, 1962) is an English writer and actor from Westminster, London. His brothers consist of artist Damian Elwes and film producer Cassian Elwes. John Elwes, another relative, was believed to be the inspiration for Ebenezer Scrooge in A Christmas Carol (1843). Ebenezer Scrooge was referred to by Charles Dickens himself in chapter six of Our Mutual Friend, his last completed novel. Elwes played multiple roles in the 2009 film adaptation of A Christmas Carol.
Elwes was an altar boy at Westminster Cathedral, educated at Harrow School, and attended the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. Elwes moved to the U.S.A in 1981 to study acting at Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, New York. During his stay there, Elwes learned acting at both the Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute and the Actors Studio.
Elwes worked on films Absolution, Octopussy, and Superman, during his teenage years as a production assistant. The famous actor Brando insisted on calling him "Rocky" after Rocky Marciano when Elwes introduced himself to Brando. In 1984, Elwes made his acting debut on film Another Country by Marek Kanievska. He made additional appearances in Yesterday's Hero, The Princess Bride, Days of Thunder, Bram Stoker's Dracula, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, and Quest for Camelot.
Some of the notable television appearances by Elwes include Seinfeld (debut appearance), The Pentagon Wars, Pinky, and the Brain, Race Against Time, Haskett's Chance, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, and Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey. He also joined the third season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel as Gavin Hawk.
