Calgary Expo Information
Calgary Expo, or the Calgary Comic and Entertainment Expo to give it its full name, is an annual fan convention held in Stampede Park in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. Starting in 2005 as a comic book convention at the BMO Centre, the show expanded to include actors from television and film in 2009. This conference has grown to become Canada's number two convention. The reunion of the actors of Star Trek: The Next Generation for the show's 25th anniversary in 2012 and practically the entire cast of Aliens two years later propelled the conference to fame (1986).
In 2005, Calgary Expo began as a comic book convention; in 2009, it expanded to welcome actors from television and film. Consequently, the conference rapidly grew to become Canada's second-largest gathering of its kind. Originally held at the BMO Centre, the convention moved to all of Stampede Park in 2013 and added a tent for panels the following year.
For the 25th anniversary of Star Trek: The Next Generation, the cast famously reunited at the convention in 2012, and the following year, almost the entire cast of Aliens got together at the convention (1986). There were around 400 attendees in the inaugural year of the convention's cosplay march through downtown Calgary and onto Olympic Plaza; in 2014, that number increased to 690. Over 5,000 people marched in this year's event.
