Ahamefule J. Oluo is an American musician-composer, trumpeter, as well as a stand-up comedian and writer. He is considered as the first artist-in-residence at Town Hall Seattle. Oluo was born in Denton, Texas. His associated acts include Mayer Hawthorne, Hey Marseilles, Degenerate Art Ensemble, Meklit Hadero, John Zorn, The Ham Store, Hadley Caliman, Wayne Horvitz, Blue Scholars, Julian Priester, Hari Kondabolu, and Mike Drucker.
Oluo began his career as a trumpeter. Since he started, Oluo has recorded and performed with several notable groups and musicians. He is also a member of the jazz quartet Industrial Revelation. In 2014, Oluo won the Stranger Genius Award. He was selected as the first artist-in-residence of Town Hall Seattle in 2012. During this time, he had begun creating an experimental autobiographical pop opera entitled “Now I’m Fine.” In December 2014, he debuted the full-length of the opera co-written by Lindy West at On The Boards theatre. A 17-piece orchestra accompanied the opera.
Oluo has collaborated the most with Hari Kondabolu as a comedian. Kondabolu described Oluo as his great friend and writing partner in 2010. Oluo’s opera piece was also sent to the New York’s Public Theatre as a part of the Under the Radar Festival.
