The name of this musical comes from the eponymous autobiographical one-person act. Critics praised the 1993 film adaptation based on Chazz Palminteri's highly acclaimed one-person show. In 2016, the musical's world premiered in Millburn, New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse. It premiered in New York's Longacre Theatre before moving on to Broadway.
In this musical, a young man named Calogero Anello gets himself entangled with the local crime boss, Sonny. It shows how Calogero struggles to choose between his father, a bus driver who hates crime, and Sonny, a mob boss who acts as a father figure to him. The cinematic adaptation of A Bronx Tale was directed and starred by Robert De Niro. Not only that, but he and Jerry Zaks are the musical's co-directors. Some have likened the musical to a cross between West Side Story and Jersey Boys.
