Wilson Phillips is an American pop band. The group's current lineup consists of Carnie Wilson, Wendy Wilson, and Cynna Phillips. Phillips and the Wilson sisters spent their childhoods together in the greater Los Angeles area in the '70s and '80s. They practiced singing together and perfected their harmonies because of their mutual interest in music. SBK Records signed the band in 1989.
Chynna Phillips, daughter of Mamas & Papas' John and Michelle Phillips, is one of the three; Carnie Wilson, daughter of the Beach Boys' Brian Wilson, and Wendy Rovell, daughter of the Honeys' Marilyn Rovell, are the other two. In 1990, Wilson Phillips released their self-titled debut album. On June 9, 1990, their first single, "Hold On," topped the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the United States.
Additionally, the track peaked at #2 in Australia, #6 in the UK, #7 in Ireland, #10 in Sweden, #15 in the Netherlands, Germany, and Switzerland, and #1 on the US Billboard Adult Contemporary chart. Additionally, Wilson Phillips took home the 1990 Billboard Music Award for Hot 100 Single of the Year for their work on this song. "Release Me" was the second single, a number-one hit for two weeks.
Their fourth track, "You're in Love," spent one week at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, while their third single, "Impulsive," also reached the top ten. The Dream Is Still Alive," their fifth single, reached number twelve on the Hot 100.
