Christian music duo For King & Country consists of Australian siblings Joel (June 5, 1984) and Luke Smallbone (October 22, 1986), formerly known as Joel & Luke and Auroville, both were born in Australia, but their families moved to Nashville when they were little. That's how they grew up in the United States.
A brief EP under the moniker Joel & Luke preceded the publication of their full-length debut, Crave, in 2012. Billboard magazine has included the group in their "New Artists to Watch" list for 2012. They were dubbed "Australia's answer to Coldplay" by an American songwriter. Run Wild was their second full-length album, published in 2014. Feel the Freedom. The Grammy-winning album Love Strong.
Burn the Ships was released in 2018 and quickly went gold. All four singles from the album charted, with "God Only Knows" going platinum and "Joy" and "Burn the Ships" both going gold. A Drummer Boy Christmas, a full-length holiday CD, was released that year. Their fifth studio album, What Are We Waiting For?, came out in 2022. The band released a single titled "What Are We Waiting For?" on June 16, 2023. The song had never appeared on any of their albums before.
Dolly Parton, Timbaland, Tori Kelly, Lecrae, Needtobreathe, and others have all worked with the band in the past. In November 2022, the brothers revealed via social media that they and their brother Ben had completed production on a film about their mother, Unsung Hero. They later announced on August 1, 2023, that Lionsgate would release the film on April 26, 2024.
