Gordon Matthew Thomas Sumner (October 2, 1951) is an English actor and musician who is better known by his stage name, Sting. Sting first gained fame in the late 1970s as the lead singer and bass player of The Police. The Police mixed rock with reggae and had big hits like Roxanne and Every Breath You Take. Their music was catchy and a little different, which helped them stand out. By the early 1980s, Sting had become one of the most well-known voices in music, and people loved the energy he brought to the stage.
After The Police stopped making records together, Sumner started a solo career and continued to produce great music. His solo songs had more variety and sometimes felt softer or more thoughtful. Tracks like Fields of Gold and Englishman in New York showed a new side of his style. He also collaborated with artists from diverse backgrounds and explored new sounds, ranging from jazz to world music. Over the years, he stayed active by touring, writing, and even acting. He’s also known for helping causes he cares about, like protecting the planet and supporting human rights.
In 2025, Sumner is out on the road again with his Sting 3.0 Tour. This new tour began in March and has already visited cities such as Boston, Toronto, and Chicago. He’s playing with a smaller band this time, giving fans a more personal show. The setlist includes songs from his early days with The Police, along with solo favorites. The tour will continue through the summer, featuring additional shows in the US and overseas. Fans are showing up to hear the hits and enjoy a night of classic music done in a fresh new way.
