We Are The Union Information
We Are the Union is an American ska punk band. The group's current lineup consists of Jeremy Hunter, Ricky Weber, Brandon Benson, and Reade Wolcott. When its members were "unhappy with the existing condition of ska music," they decided to establish a band in Ann Arbor, Michigan, in August 2005. Who We Are, their first album came out in 2007. In 2015, after an absence of several years, the band reunited, this time with Jer Hunter, trombonist for the popular YouTube channel Ska Tune Network. Self Care was their fourth studio album, released that year. The band then appeared on Audiotree and dropped several new tracks in 2020 after the success of this album.
We Are The Union have scheduled the release of their new album, Ordinary Life, for June 4, 2021, via Bad Time Records. Reade Wolcott, the album's lead singer, just came out as a trans woman in conjunction with the album's launch, and the record focuses heavily on themes related to her identity change. We Are the Union was dubbed the "Official Band of Pride" during the summer of Ska 2022. Brent Friedman, the band's drummer, departed in November 2022. Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, Slapstick, Less Than Jake, and This Is a Standoff are all cited as inspirations for We Are the Union. Pop and indie pop have been major influences on them as of late.
