Thomas Wayne Hancock III (May 1, 1965) is an American singer-songwriter from Dallas, Texas. He is better known by the name Wayne "The Train" Hancock and "The King of Juke Joint Swing." Hancock got this name because his sound is unique in its way. He is known for amazingly incorporating jazz, western swing, big band, country, and rockabilly music styles. He used to listen to all these styles of music as a kid.
Hancock cited Tommy Dorsey, Hank Thompson, Jimmie Rodgers, Glenn Miller, Hank Williams, and Hank Snow as his major influences. All of these artists were in Hancock's parents' record collection. His father was a design engineer, so he moved a lot with his family. Hancock started writing songs when he was only 12. Since then, he has been compared to Hank Williams as the legend influenced his vocal style.
Hancock won the Wrangler Country Showdown contest at the age of 18. Soon after winning this big contest, he joined the United States Marine Corps, where Hancock was shipped to recruit training. For four years, Hancock served in the military. "Cold Lonesome Wind" is one of his hit singles which Hancock wrote at Camp Hansen in Okinawa, Japan, during a six-month deployment.
Risin' Outlaw was the debut album by Hank Williams III, grandson of Hank Williams Sr., in 1999. The album covered two songs from the famous Thunderstorms and Neon Signs, along with the title track, as well as the famous hit "Why Don't You Leave Me Alone." Hancock also recorded a song from That's What Daddy Wants entitled "87 Southbound."
