Waxahatchee Information
Waxahatchee is an American indie music project that was founded in 2010. The project originated from Birmingham, Alabama, and was formed by American singer-songwriter Katie Crutchfield (January 4, 1989). She named the band after Waxahatchee Creek, in Alabama, where she grew up. The music of Waxahatchee is defined as indie folk and indie rock. Crutchfield released her first music as Waxahatchee in the form of a cassette. Her debut album was a bedroom-recorded one entitled American Weekend. It was recorded in 2011 and released in 2012. The lyrics by Crutchfield are focused on personal relationships, longing, and devastation.
American Weekend was named a top album of 2012 by Dusted magazine. "Be Good" was the song included in the album, which was a song of the day on National Public Radio. This debut album was followed by a second album, Cerulean Salt, released in March 2013. It reached number one on the Official Record Store Chart in July 2013 as well as scored 8.4 on Pitchfork. Some of the other albums released under Waxahatchee are Ivy Tripp, in April 2015, Out in the Storm July 14, 2017, and Saint Cloud March 27, 2020. Great Thunder, released on September 7, 2018, was the only EP by the project.
A few of the notable singles are No Curse, Farewell Transmission b/w The Dark Don't Hide It, Live at Third Man 7" (2018), and Lilacs (2020). Waxahatchee toured with The New Pornographers in 2017, and headline tour all around the United States. During the autumn months, Waxahatchee toured central Europe and Scandinavia in various big clubs and festivals.
