Uncle Acid & the Deadbeats are an English rock band. The current lineup of the group consists of Kevin R. Starrs, "Uncle Acid" (organ, lead vocals, and lead guitar), Vaughn Stokes (backing vocals and rhythm guitar), Jon Rice (drums), and Justin Smith (bass). The band's sound is greatly influenced by the late '60s when heavy metal was beginning to emerge. The band's sound is authentically '70s because they recorded with old gear.
Singer Rusty Day of the band Cactus went on to form his band, which he named Uncle Acid And The Permanent Damage Band. Although he is now known as K.R. Starrs, the band's former frontman, known only as "Uncle Acid," still considers himself part of the group. The Quietus's Blood Lust was the band's first major success.
The band's third album, Mind Control, included more '70s-style pop influences. The album has earned "universal praise," as stated by Metacritic's 81 (based on seven reviews). A review by Justin Norton of Decibel Magazine gave the album an 8 out of 10.
