Ultra Q Information
The songs on Ultra Q, written primarily by Jakob Armstrong (the youngest son of Green Day's Billie Joe Armstrong), evoke the dark, angular intensity of the early 2000s garage punk revivalists. On albums like its 2021 EP Get Yourself a Friend, the band combined The Strokes, Interpol, and The Killers with Armstrong's distinct brand of anguish. Rolling Stone, NME, Vice, and other publications praised their debut EP. They also went on tours with The Regrettes, Hockey Dad, Together Pangea, Bad Suns and finished the year with a performance at Riot Fest. Ultra Q is releasing its second EP, In A Cave In A Video Game, under a new name.
Armstrong, Kevin Judd, Enzo & Chris Malaspina, and Armstrong were high school classmates who founded Ultra Q. The project largely consisted of the after-school trio Mt. Eddy, reformed as Ultra Q in 2019 after Judd joined. Later that year, the band's debut EP, We're Starting to Get Along, was widely praised. The band then went on tour as a support act and played at a few festivals. In response to the global pandemic, Ultra Q's second album, the 2020s, stylistically varied In a Cave in a Video Game, featured songs Armstrong created and recorded at home during the first few weeks of lockdown. In 2021, the third EP, Get Yourself a Friend, was released.
