Toto hit it big in 1982 with "Toto IV" and that song everyone knows and loves - "Africa." The LA band went from playing sessions for other people to winning six Grammys, including Album of the Year. They mix rock with pop and jazz in a way that works. Songs like "Rosanna" and "Hold the Line" showcase their smooth harmonies and killer musicianship, which made them stand out from everyone else.
These guys were already pros before they even started the band. They'd played on records for Michael Jackson, Paul McCartney, and Steely Dan, so they knew their stuff. Their first album, released in 1978, was followed by "Hydra" in 1979, which showed they could do hard rock and fancy pop equally well. When you see them live, you get why other musicians respect them so much - everyone in the band can play.
This summer, they're doing a big North American tour starting July 18, 2025, in West Palm Beach with Christopher Cross and Men at Work. They'll hit Tampa the next day, then Birmingham on July 21, and Alpharetta on July 22. The whole thing wraps up on August 30 in Ridgefield, Washington, after hitting venues all across the US and Canada.
