Tom Hamilton Information
Thomas William Hamilton (December 31, 1951) is an American musician. He was born in Colorado Springs, Colorado. His brother received his first guitar when Tom was four years old and taught him how to play the instrument. At 12, Scott, Hamilton's older brother, taught him his first guitar chords. When he was 14 years old, Tom moved to bass to join a local band because of an opening in that position. Hamilton played in several bands with David "Pudge" Scott and Joe Perry, who would later join Aerosmith. One of the groups just went by the name "The Jam Band."
The Jam Band first met Steven Tyler at a performance they both gave in the summer of 1970 at a venue called "The Barn" in Sunapee, New Hampshire. The four then decided to go to Boston and form a band (not yet named Aerosmith). Shortly after, Scott quit the band, and Tyler took his position on the drums. Hamilton on bass, Tyler on drums and vocals, and Perry on guitar formed a dynamic trio.
Roger Sadowsky manufactures "unbelievably exquisite basses," according to Tom Hamilton. He utilized a butterscotch Sadowsky '51 Fender Precision Bass replica modified with a second pickup for the recording of the album Honkin' On Bobo and following tours.
