The Swingin Medallions Information
The Swingin’ Medallions are a music group founded in 1962 that originated from Greenwood, South Carolina. The music of the band is defined as rock, pop, and beach. The group was formerly known as The Medallions, and “Swingin” was added to the name in 1965. The original members of the ensemble are John McElrath - keyboards (d. 2018), Jimbo Doares – guitar; Carroll Bledsoe – trumpet; Charles Webber – trumpet; Freddie Pugh, saxophone; Brent Forston - saxophone, flute; Jimmy Perkins - bass guitar; Joe Morris – drums; and Perrin Gleaton - lead guitar.
“I Wanna Be Your Guy” was the first single by the Swingin’ Medallions, released under their most current name. It was followed by another single entitled “Double Shot (Of My Baby’s Love),” written by Cyril Vetter and Don Smith. The second song hit number 17 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 in 1966. Some of the other notable singles by the group are “She Drives Me Out of My Mind,” “Hey, Hey, Baby,” “I Don’t Want To Lose You Baby”/“Night Owl,” “I Found A Rainbow”/“Don’t Cry No More,” and “Turn On The Music”/“Summer’s Not The Same This Year.”
Anthology is the only compilation by the Swingin’ Medallions that was released in 1997. Some of the notable studio albums by the band are Double Shot (Of My Baby’s Love) 1966, Sun Sand and Sea 1981, It’s All Right, Get U Some 1993, Original Coors Beach Party No. 1 1998, Original Coors Beach Party No. 2 2000, Christmas Party 2001, and Round & Round (2003).
