The Steel Woods are an American country music group based in Nashville, Tennessee. The band has performed in support of musicians such as Lynyrd Skynyrd, Dwight Yoakam, and Blackberry Smoke and cites inspirations including Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, and Led Zeppelin. On January 16, 2021, founding member and guitarist Jason "Rowdy" Cope passed away.
The Steel Woods' debut studio album, 2017's Straw in the Wind, was released on Thirty Tigers/Woods Music and was mostly inspired by the time Bayliss and Cope spent fishing and writing in the band's early days. The album featured a guest vocal performance by Lindi Ortega, while Brent Cobb also contributed to the record as a songwriter. It scored 42 on the Billboard Independent Albums list on June 10, 2017.
Following the completion of the last U.S. tour throughout 2024, Wes Bayliss stated on March 28, 2024, that The Steel Woods would break up, citing personal reasons to dissolve the band and canceling a planned fall 2024 U.K. and European tour with fellow Southern rockers Blackberry Smoke.
