The OBGMs Information
Canadian punk rock band The OBGMs (The oOohh Baby Gimme Mores) hail from Toronto and had a breakthrough with the release of 2020s The Ends, which was a finalist for the 2021 Polaris Music Prize. Densil McFarlane on vocals, Joe Brosnan on guitar, and Colanthony Humphrey on drums make up the band. Midway through the 2010s, keyboardist Jemuel Roberts was also a part of the group, but he has since left.
In 2007, McFarlane and Humphrey got together to start the band after working together in the hip-hop production industry. After being arrested for racial profiling, which derailed McFarlane's ambitions to attend college in the United States, they shifted their sound toward a more punk aesthetic. In 2009, they dropped their first EP, titled Interchorus.
Initially, the band had trouble making it big in the punk scene because McFarlane and Humphrey are Black Canadians and were frequently booked on urban music bills. Dave Schiffman produced and recorded The Ends at Toronto's Dreamhouse Studios on October 30, 2020. At roughly the same time, they were chosen as one of four acts to be promoted by Collective Arts Brewing's Audio/Visual Lager, which aids in promoting independent musicians with special limited edition band-themed cans. The other three groups were JJ Wilde, SonReal, and Northcote.
