Auburn Tigers football is the football team of Auburn University. Auburn Tigers compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the Western Division of the Southeastern Conference (SEC). The program's athletic director is John Cohen, and the head coach is Hugh Freeze. Officially, the Auburn Tigers started to compete in intercollegiate football in 1892. 1932, Tinger joined the Southeastern Conference and became one of its oldest members. Tigers began competing in the West Division when the conference divided in 1992.
Auburn has gone unbeaten 12 times, won 16 conference titles, and 10 division championships. The Tigers have made 44 bowl games, including 12 historic ones. Auburn has almost 780 wins, making them the 13th most successful FBS school ever. Auburn has had 12 people—eight players and four coaches—inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.
The Auburn Tigers play their home games at Jordan-Hare Stadium, which opened in 1939 and has a capacity of 87,451. Throughout 120 seasons, the team has appeared in more than 1,200 games. Eight different coaches have overseen the Tigers' postseason bowl appearances during that time.
Auburn was a member of the West Division of the Southeastern Conference from 1992 to 2023, during which time they faced each West Division opponent annually and numerous East Division opponents. The Tigers' schedule against other SEC members will look different in 2024 due to the SEC's decision to expand the conference to 16 teams and eliminate its two divisions. On June 14, 2023, only the 2024 conference calendar was revealed, and the conference is still debating whether or not to adopt a new format.
