The Nace Brothers are a blues, roots, rock, Americana, and honky-tonk band that originated from Warrensburg, MO. The group's current lineup includes Jimmy Nace: Guitar, Vocals; David Nace: Vocals, Drums; Paul Greenlease: Bass, Vocals; and T.J. Erhardt: Keyboards, Accordion, Vocals. The two brothers, David and Jimmy, have been performing together for over 32 years.
The musical heritage of The Nace Brothers started in the latter part of the 19th century with their great-great-grandfather, Valandingham Nace, who was a classically trained violinist. This musical legacy continued in the 1920s and ’30s with their grandfather Percy, a multi-instrumentalist and square dance caller. Their father was already playing suppers and square dances by the late 40s.
Johnny Nace progressed from playing rural dances to leading house bands on regional television and radio programs such as “Circle Six Ranch” and “Hillbilly Jamboree.” In the late ’50s, he recorded rockabilly right before finding his musical home of honky-tonk. Johnny led a top-notch band to regional success as a songwriter, with singles like “Blue Notes” and “Sing Me the Blues.” “Roots of Steel” is one of the masterpieces by the Nace Brothers, a tribute to their father and the different lessons he taught them, released in 1997.
