The Lovin’ Spoonful is a rock band based in New York City, New York. The group’s current lineup consists of Joe Butler, Steve Boone, Mike Arturi, Phil Smith, and Murray Weinstock. The group is known for its significant number of hits, including “Do You Believe in Magic,” “Daydream,” and “Summer in the City.” In 2000, The Lovin’ Spoonful was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
The Lovin’ Spoonful had folk music roots that were based in the Greenwich Village section of lower Manhattan. In early 1965, the group recorded its first project for Elektra Records. They agreed to sign a long-term record deal with the Elektra Records, and in 1966, the band released its four-track CD.
On July 20, 1965, The Lovin’ Spoonful released its first single entitled “Do You Believe in Magic.” The single was produced with Erik Jacobsen and written by Sebastian. The single reached number 9 on the Hot 100. The band has a long list of recordings throughout its career such as “You Didn’t Have to Be So Nice,” “Jug Band Music,” “Rain on the Roof,” “Nashville Cats,” “Darling Be Home Soon,” “Six O’Clock,” “You’re A Big Boy Now,” and “She Is Still a Mystery.” The Lovin’ Spoonful also released several notable studio albums in the United States since its formation, including What’s Up, Tiger Lily, and Hums of the Lovin’ Spoonful.
