The Jesus Lizard Information
The Jesus Lizard is an American rock band founded in 1987 in Austin, Texas, by vocalist David Yow, guitarist Duane Denison, and bassist David Wm. Sims. Steve Albini, a recording engineer, and Touch and Go Records were like-minded when they moved to Chicago, Illinois, in 1989. They started playing live after adding drummer Mac McNeilly, and their electrifying performances won over audiences worldwide.
Late in 1996, Jim Kimball took over drumming duties from McNeilly. Two years later, Brendan Murphy took over from Kimball. McNeilly triumphantly returned to the drums for their reunion gigs years after that. They signed with Capitol Records and released a split single with prominent alt-rock act Nirvana, but the band couldn't break through during the alternative music boom of the '90s and broke up in 1999.
In December 2017, the band embarked on their first tour in eight years. In September 2018, they embarked on a tour and will perform at Riot Fest 2018 in Chicago later that month. Streaming of the first track, "Hide and Seek," began simultaneously with announcing The Jesus Lizard's first album in 26 years in June 2024. The album Rack was set to be released on September 13 through Ipecac Recordings.
