The Green Information
The Green is a reggae band. The current lineup consists of Jordan Espinoza (drums), Brad "BW" Watanabe (keyboard and bass), Ikaika Antone (lead vocals and keyboard), JP Kennedy (lead vocals and guitar), Zion Thompson (lead vocals and guitar), and Caleb Keolanui (lead vocals). In 2009, Oahu was the site of the birth of The Green, a band from Hawaii. The fact that there are four vocalists in this group sets them apart. The band's lead singer Caleb Keolanui and guitarist J.P. Kennedy are first cousins who met while playing in a band called Next Generation, which is where the core four singer/songwriters first got together.
Ikaika Antone, formerly of the keyboard group Stir Crazy, and Zion Thompson, a guitarist, also joined the band. After a band breakup, the two reunited with their cousins to form The Green because they were all homesick for Hawaii. Kennedy explains the group's moniker: "We were going for a name that didn't suggest anything specific. It's only a hue; you give it any meaning you like." Then they recruited Leslie Ludiazo on drums and bassist/songwriter Brad Watanabe.
The four members of The Green swiftly rose to prominence on the island thanks to their unique vocal harmonies, individual songwriting skills, and their own "pop-burnished roots reggae style" of music. On February 2, 2010, the band released its debut album, The Green. The album's lead single, "Love I," became a smash hit on Hawaiian radio and spent an unprecedented 69 consecutive weeks on the Billboard Reggae Chart.
