The Flaming Lips are an American rock band that originated from Oklahoma City. The band was formed in 1983 with an alternative rock/post-punk genre. The group consists of seven band members: Wayne Coyne, Michael Ivins, Steven Drozd, Derek Brown, Jake Ingalls, Matt Duckworth, and Nicholas Ley. The band is widely famous for its rock music and the production of soulful songs.
The rock band released several albums and EPs on the Restless label in the 1980s and 90s. After landing a contract with Warner Brothers, their debut record “Hit to Death in the Future Head” was released in 1992. The Flaming Lips released a total of 15 albums throughout their career. The famous records include “Telepathic Surgery,” “In a Priest Driven Ambulance,” “Clouds Taste Metallic,” “Zaireeka,” “The Soft Bulletin,” “Embryonic,” “The Terror,” “Oczy Melody,” “King’s Mouth,” and “Transmission from the Satellite Heart.”
Over the years, the band has won and been nominated for many awards. They won the Grammy Award for Best Rock Instrumental Performance in 2003. The group also won the Grammy Award for Best Engineered Album in 2007 and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Score in 2018.
Other than these, the group had been nominated for several awards, such as Grammy Award for Best Alternative Music Album (2004 and 2007), a Grammy Award for Best Surround Sound Album (2008), and Tony Award for Best Original Score (2018). In February 2007, the band was nominated for a BRIT Award for “Best International Act.” They also made Q Magazine’s list of the “50 Bands to See Before You Die” in 2002.
