The Englishtown Project Information
Cover ensemble The Englishtown Project plays music by legendary groups from the '70s. Specifically, it's an attempt to recreate the Grateful Dead's concert at Raceway Park in Englishtown, New Jersey, in 1977. The Grateful Dead were supported on that night by the New Riders of the Purple Sage and the Marshall Tucker Band. The Englishtown Project cycles through nearly sixty tracks; all played at the same concert in 1977.
The Englishtown Project was conceptualized by Michael Falzarano, formerly of the bands The Hot Tuna and The New Riders of the Purple Sage. People from the United States and Canada would talk about how great their show was in Englishtown, New Jersey, with The Grateful Dead. In 2018, Falzarano resolved to form a new group whose sole purpose would be to recreate that historic performance. In May 2018, Brooklyn Bowl hosted The Englishtown Project's debut performance.
Falzarano and Wolfson frequently perform alongside members of other jam ensembles from all over the United States. The band has occasionally strayed from their initial setlist at Raceway Park and played songs outside their original set. Falzarano is known to accept requests from the crowd, making each performance one of a kind.
