The Calling Information
The Calling is an American rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Alex Band, Daniel Thomson, and Travis Loafman. When Aaron Kamin (lead guitar, backing vocals) started dating Alex Band's sister, they hit it off and eventually joined the band. Kamin and Band have been doing music together since at least 1996, when they first got together to jam and write songs and started playing live under the name "Generation Gap" with a drummer twice their age.
The addition of saxophonist Benny Golbin gave the songs a jazzier feel, a la Dave Matthews Band, at this point in the band's evolution. Band and Kamin eventually replaced the original "Gap" lineup, and the band briefly went by the name "Next Door," an homage to Band's next-door neighbor and music industry veteran Ron Fair.
Among the radio rock artists of the early 21st century, such as Matchbox Twenty, Third Eye Blind, Train, and Fastball, they rapidly acquired their sound. 1999 Fair was sufficiently impressed by the demos to sign the band to an RCA record deal. The band's new moniker, "The Calling," better conveys its mission.
In an interview with Welsh podcast SteegCast filmed in February 2020, Band discussed his future musical ambitions and new material, including the possibility of releasing symphonic arrangements of some of The Calling's most well-known songs.
