The Beths Information
The Beths are a New Zealand indie-pop band that is based in Auckland, New Zealand. The current lineup of the band is Elizabeth Stokes (guitar and lead vocals), Jonathan Pearce (guitar and vocals), Benjamin Sinclair (bass and vocals), and Tristan Deck (percussion, vocals, and drums). The group members Pearce and Stokes met in high school, whereas Sinclair and Luketina-Johnston joined them when the four were attending the University of Auckland and studying Jazz. The band was formed in the year 2015, and in July, The Beths released their first single named “Idea/Intent” via SoundCloud.
The Beths independently released their debut extended play entitled “Warm Blood.” The extended play also spawned a single “Whatever.” In October 2017, the group released a new single named “Great No One,” the first to be presented from the debut album entitled “Future Me Hates Me.” The Beths have worked with a few record labels such as Carpark Records and Dew Process. The Beths undertook a tour to Europe and the United Kingdom, where they supported Death Cab for Cutie.
The Beths is generally known for the use of its vocal harmony and using the voices of all the three band members. NZ Music Commission and NZ on Air financially support the group for a period. The band has released two studio albums so far, including “Future Me Hates Me” (August 10, 2018) and “Jump Rope Gazers” (July 10, 2020). Their most notable singles include “Lying in the Sun,” “Happy Unhappy,” and Little Death.”
