Teddy and the Rough Riders Information
In the spring of 1958, Teddy And The Rough Riders formed in Fairborn, Ohio. The Teddy Bears were the original name of this rock 'n' roll group, but Phil Spector's outfit was forced to change for obvious reasons. Roosevelt was Teddy Grill's middle name, and he performed most of the singing. They adopted the moniker Teddy and the Rough Riders that fell on Jim Colegrove's advice.
Teddy Grills on vocals and guitar, Dick Fischer on drums, and Jim Colegrove on lead guitar and vocals made up the group's initial lineup. Later additions included Bob Brane on saxophone, Bill Trimmer on bass, Phil Ackerman on bongos, piano, and organ. There were never more than two people in this band. Denny Boyd replaced Bill Trimmer on bass in 1963, while Dick Fischer was replaced on drums by Les Sayre in 1962. Bill and Dick both joined the Navy.
