Steve Hackett Information
Hackett, Stephen Richard (February 12, 1950) is a guitarist, composer, vocalist, and record producer who rose to fame as Genesis' main guitarist from 1971 until 1977. Before going solo, Hackett played on and co-wrote songs on six Genesis studio albums, three live albums, seven singles, and an EP. As a member of Genesis, he was granted entrance to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame in 2010.
While still a member of Genesis, Hackett released his debut solo album, Voyage of the Acolyte, in 1975. 1978, Hackett released a string of successful solo albums before teaming up with Steve Howe in 1986 to form the band GTR.
GTR's self-titled album reached No. 11 on the Billboard 200, and its first song, "When the Heart Rules the Mind," reached the Top 20 in the US. Hackett's departure from GTR in 1987 led to the end of the band. After that, Hackett went back to his solo work. His albums and global tours have continued since.
Hackett's autobiography, A Genesis in My Bed, emerged in July 2020. In an interview to promote the book, he said he and Roger King had been working on two albums: Under a Mediterranean Sky, an acoustic album with an orchestra, and Surrender of Silence, a rock record with world music elements.
Both albums came out on their respective dates of January 22 and September 10, 2021. Surrender of Silence debuted in the UK at No. 31 on the chart, while in Germany, it reached No. 10.
