Sister Sledge Information
Sister Sledge is a musical vocal group based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The band formed in 1971, and the current lineup consists of Debbie Sledge, Kim Sledge, and Tanya Tiet. They are siblings who achieved international success at the next level of the disco era. The group released its breakthrough album in 1979 entitled “We Are Family.” The album peaked at three on the Billboard 200. Two singles of the album named “We Are Family” and “He’s The Greatest Dancer” were included in the US Top-10 singles. The third single, “Lost in Music,” reached the US top 40.
Sister Sledge started their career with extensive touring. They toured much of the East Coast, including their hometown, Philadelphia, New York, and New Jersey. In 1971, the siblings released their debut single on the local music label, Money Back, entitled “Time Will Tell.” The group also released another single, “Mama Never Told Me,” which became a top-20 hit in the UK in 1975.
In 1975, Sister Sledge released their first album entitled “Circle of Love.” ATCO released the album, and the songs included were written by Patrick Grant and Gwen Guthrie. Sister Sledge has performed at the White House for the President and First Lady at the final Christmas party of the Clinton Administration. Other notable studio albums released by Sister Sledge include Together (1977), Love Somebody Today (1980), All American Girls (1981), The Sisters (1982), and Bet Cha Say That to All the Girls (1983).
