Sigur Ros Information
Sigur Rós is a post-rock band from Iceland established in Reykjavík in 1994. The primary singer and guitarist, Jón Þór "Jónsi" Birgisson, is joined by Georg Hólm on bass and Kjartan Sveinsson on keyboard. Sigur Rós is known for its ethereal sound, which combines classical and minimalist aesthetic aspects with vocalist Jónsi's falsetto vocals and bowed guitar.
Icelandic and non-linguistic vocalizations, which the band calls Vonlenska, are used by Jónsi for his singing. They gained critical and commercial acclaim for their second album, Ágaetis byrjun, the first of eight studio albums they released. Released on December 4, 2020, the band's latest album is Odin's Raven Magic, an orchestral composition that made its live premiere in 2002. The announcement was made in October 2020. Originally performed in 2004, this album captures the orchestral work as a live performance in Paris.
Sigur Rós confirmed Kjartan's return to the band on February 14, 2022. After nearly five years, they finally announced a world tour the week after. Along with the tour, the band also stated that they are working on an album. "Blóðberg" was the first single from Sigur Rós's eighth studio album, Átta (meaning "eight" in Icelandic), and it was released on June 16, 2023. Sundlaugin Studio, situated on the rural outskirts of Reykjavík, was the site of the self-produced album's recording.
