The Chu Un Temple and the Fo Guang Shan Academy of Art in the Philippines collaborated to create an original musical on the story of Prince Siddhartha. Hsing Yun, a Buddhist monk from Taiwan and the founder of the Fo Guang Shan Buddhist Order, adapted his book The Biography of Sakyamuni Buddha into a musical.
Siddhartha: A Musical Journey to Enlightenment premiered at the Waterfront Cebu on July 6, 2007. The ensemble was invited to perform at Fo Guang Shan in Kaohsiung, Taiwan, in September 2007 to honor Hsing Yun's birthday after the show received rave reviews and was a critical and commercial success.
On November 4, 2007, a successful repeat performance of the entire musical took place at the Cultural Center of the Philippines in Manila. I.B.P.S. Manila, Philippines, and the Buddha's Light International Association - Philippines put on the show in Manila.
There were supposed to be three showings of the C.C.P. show. A second show was added on November 4 to accommodate ticket demand. In the middle of May 2008, the full group performed in Kaohsiung and Taipei, Taiwan.
