Shiner Information
Shiner is a post-hardcore and alternative rock band that was founded in 1992 from Kansas City, Missouri. The band has been active from 1992 to 2003 and 2012 to present. The current lineup of the Shiner consists of Allen Epley (guitar, vocals), Paul Malinowski (bass, formerly of Season to Risk), Josh Newton (guitar, formerly of Season to Risk), and Jason Gerken (drums, formerly of Molly McGuire). Some of the former members are Jeff Brown (drums), Tim Dow (drums), Joel Hamilton (guitar), and Shawn Sherrill (bass).
Shiner earned wide exposure right after its formation by releasing a vinyl EP in 1993 along with touring with acts such as Jawbox, Season to Risk, Sunny Day Real Estate, Chore, The Jesus Lizard, and Girls Against Boys. Splay was the first LP by the band in 1996. It was followed by a second album, Lula Divinia 1997, Starless 2000, The Egg 2001, and Schadenfreude 2020. A few of the other notable singles and EPs by Shiner include “Brooks” / “Released,” “Crush” / “Exhaust,” “Floodwater” / “Cowboy,” “Sleep it Off” / “Half Empty,” “Farewell Bend Merger,” “Semper Fi” / “Sailor’s Fate,” and “Life as a Mannequin.”
Shiner also released two compilations entitled “Only Shallow” on the Soak Your Shoes in Red Wine and Strike the Angels Dumb compilation CD and “Anytime” (credited as Ohms) on the No Escape: a Tribute to Journey compilation CD-EP. The final show before the band broke held at The Madrid Theater in Kansas City on January 25, 2003, though the group reunited in 2012.
