S. Carey Information
Sean Carey, originally from Eau Claire, Wisconsin, is a famous American musician for his work as the drummer and backing vocalist for the indie folk band Bon Iver. Carey began writing on his debut solo album, All We Grow, in 2008, between breaks from performing with the band, and it was released in August 2010.
Harmonically, Carey's 2004 album Smile has been compared to Brian Wilson's Smile. Other artists whose work has been compared to his include Sufjan Stevens, Fleet Foxes, Iron & Wine, José González, Steve Reich, and Talk Talk. Carey grew up in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. Carey was up in a musical household as the son of a singer and a music teacher. James Taylor, The Beach Boys, and Bruce Hornsby were among his formative musical influences. Hearing his older sister play with the middle school jazz band inspired him to take up the drums at age ten.
Carey received a degree in classical percussion playing from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 2007. The following year, Carey discovered from common acquaintances that Justin Vernon would start a band called Bon Iver. He promptly spent the rest of the year listening to For Emma, Forever Ago on MySpace until he knew every song by heart. There was some luck involved in the launch of Carey's solo career. Whenever Carey spent a month on the road with Bon Iver, she would head back to Eau Claire for three weeks. Carey would spend his free time at home making music by recording songs and experimenting with different layers of sound.
