Singer-songwriter Ruby Waters was born in Canada on July 20, 1997. Waters, who is both Métis and Slovak, was raised in Shelburne, Ontario. Reddit users were initially exposed to her after a video of her singing her first track, "Sweet Sublime," went viral. After releasing her debut EP Almost Naked, she released the singles "Supernatural" and "Last Cigarette," and she supported City and Colour on his 2019 tour.
In 2020, she released If It Comes Down to It, her second extended play. DillanPonders, a rapper, featured her on his tune "Jungle" the same year. In 2021, she released the single "Blow," which peaked at #29 on CBC Music's year-end charts as the finest Canadian song of the year. She performed during the "Get Together" edition of the Osheaga Festival in October 2021. If It Comes Down to It earned her an Alternative Album of the Year nomination at the 2022 Juno Awards.
