Royal Blood Information
Royal Blood is an English rock duo. The group's current lineup consists of Ben Thatcher (drums, percussion, and piano) and Mike Kerr (guitar, piano, keyboards, bass, and lead vocals). After Kerr met original drummer Matt Swan in Worthing in March 2011, Royal Blood was created. They moved to Australia, where Swan was born, and recorded an EP in Brisbane. The first song, "Leaving," was released in 2012 on Triple J in Australia; it was then re-recorded and titled "Come On Over."
The band established their sound in the Brighton Electric studios, and it was during this time that Warner/Chappell Music signed them. They signed with the same management firm as Arctic Monkeys. Arctic Monkeys drummer Matt Helders wore a Royal Blood shirt during the Arctic Monkeys' Glastonbury Festival performance in the summer of 2013.
Royal Blood released its official debut song, "Out of the Black," on November 11, 2013. Royal Blood announced in November 2013 that they would support Arctic Monkeys at two Finsbury Park gigs in May 2014. Royal Blood was nominated for BBC Sound of 2014 in December 2013. On February 11, 2014, Royal Blood released their second single, "Little Monster."
