Robben Ford Information
Robben Lee Ford (December 16, 1951) is an American guitarist and songwriter whose music is classified as jazz, blues, and rock. He grew up in Ukiah, California. Ford began playing saxophone when he was ten years old, and at 14, he picked up the guitar. Along with his brothers, Ford founded the Charles Ford Blues Band, named in honor of their father. The band was hired to play with Charlie Musselwhite when Ford was 18. They recorded two albums entitled The Charles Ford Band and Discovering the Blues.
Ford recorded two live albums along with Jimmy Witherspoon entitled Live and Spoonful. He joined the jazz fusion band in the 1970s and played on the Joni Mitchell albums Miles of Aisles and The Hissing of Summer Lawns. The Inside Story was the first solo album by Ford, released in 1976. He also covered “Peg” in his unique style, which was included in a tribute album to Steely Dan – The Royal Dan (2006). He was also one of the seven lucky guitarists who appeared on the KISS album Creatures of the Night in 1982.
Some of the notable discographies that he released as a leader include Talk to Your Daughter, Robben Ford & the Blue Line, Live at the Notodden Blues Festival with Jimmy Witherspoon, Handful of Blues, The Authorized Bootleg, A Tribute to Paul Butterfield, Keep On Running, Bullet with Renegade Creation, and A Day in Nashville. Ford’s notable associated acts include Miles Davis, John Mayall & the Bluesbreakers, KISS, Chick Corea, and Gregg Allman Band.
