Rickie Lee Jones Information
Rickie Lee Jones (born November 8, 1954) is an American musician, songwriter, vocalist, musician, narrator, and actress. She is from Chicago, Illinois. Her grandmother, Myrtle Lee, a dancer, and paternal grandfather, Frank "Peg Leg" Jones, were vaudevillians based in Chicago. She moved to Arizona in 1959 with her family and grew up riding horses, studying dance, and practicing swimming. In the 11th grade, Jones dropped out of school and took the GED test and enrolled in college in Tacoma.
At the age of 19, Jones started to play in bars and coffee houses in LA. At the age of 21, she began to play in clubs in Venice and played music in showcases, sat in with Venice jazz bands, and worked with cover bands in clubs. She released her self-titled debut album in March 1979. This album became a hit, buoyed by the success of the jazz-flavored single "Chuck E.'s In Love." The track hit number four on the Billboard Hot 100. This album was followed by Pirates July 15, 1981, Girl at Her Volcano (EP) 1983, The Magazine 1984, Flying Cowboys 1989, Pop-Pop 1991, Traffic from Paradise 1993, Naked Songs: Live and Acoustic 1995, Ghostyhead 1997, It's Like This 2000, and the list goes on.
A few of her hit singles include "Chuck E.'s In Love," "Woody and Dutch on the Slow Train to Peking," "Flying Cowboys / The Horses," "Don't Let The Sun Catch You Crying," "Up From The Skies," "Old Enough," and a few more. Several television and movies had licensed Rickie Lee Jones's work in these years, such as Thirtysomething, Frankie, and Johnny When a Man Loves a Woman, Jerry Maguire, House M.D., and a few more.
