There's a new, exciting band on the scene, and they're called Rae and the Ragdolls, bringing the psychedelic rock sound of the '60s and '70s into the present day. The band was started by Natasha Rae Wermers and William Bennett Jr. to make "music to make you feel again." The band consists of guitarist Spencer Lingle, bassist Olivia Towe, keyboardist Ana Hacek, and drummer Devon Hirsch, who will be there for the couple's journey. It sounds like the band members are tapping into some spectral energy while they play. All ages, from the band's twentysomething contemporaries to the elderly who used to like the Grateful Dead, can be won over by this kind of magic.
Their performance was mesmerizing to the point of near-hypnosis. Their set at Hunt House comprised covers of songs by the Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, and Jack White, as well as a scorching set of original material, and the crowd was getting down. Wermers watched the dance performance from the audience for most of the evening. Few drummers could keep up with such a superb ensemble, but Hirsch's pocket drumming kept the whole band on time.
