Quasi Information
Quasi is an American indie rock band. The current lineup consists of Janet Weiss and Sam Coomes. Before breaking up in 1993, the band released three records—two cassettes and a 7" single—that they self-released. Later, in 1993, Coomes and Weiss started releasing music together as Quasi. Early live performances featured a rotating cast of extra musicians, but the duo finally settled on performing alone as a duo. In 1993, they independently recorded and released a cassette and a CD. R&B Transmogrification was recorded in the basement studio of Portland band Pond and released in 1997 on Up Records.
They toured the world in 1998 and 1999, playing shows alongside Elliott Smith (with whom Coomes had played in Heatmiser) and on their own across the Americas, Europe, Australia, and Japan. Released on Touch & Go in 2001, the album was a home recording of their 2001 performance, The Sword of God.
In 2003, they dropped Hot Shit! on Touch & Go in the United States, and in 2006, when the Going Gets Dark on Domino Recording Company in Europe. It was in 2009 that the group decided to have their second album released through Kill Rock Stars. Bolme contributed to Quasi's full-length American Gong, released in 2010, and toured with the band throughout the first half of 2011.
