PUP made a big splash in the punk rock scene in 2013 with their first electric album, same as their name. Their raw energy, cutting humor, and crazy live shows made them famous quickly. The Toronto band quickly became a fan favorite because they traveled so much and wrote positive songs. When their second record, The Dream Is Over, came out in 2016, it strengthened their place in the punk scene. It was full of bluntly honest and funny songs about having failed and being strong.
PUP has pushed the limits of what current punk music can sound like over the years. Their 2019 album, Morbid Stuff, which was praised for its growth, catchy melodies, and deep themes, is a great example of this.
The band released THE UNRAVELING OF PUPTHEBAND in 2022. It was a crazy but self-aware project that walked a fine line between rock opera and emotional slide. The record had great songs like "Robot Writes a Love Song" and showed how they'd grown as musicians who weren't afraid to be weird and open. Their live shows are still a crazy, sweaty party of sadness and happiness that often sells out places in Europe and North America.
Looking ahead to 2025, PUP isn't slowing down. The band is working on new music, and they've hinted at a new tour experience with new images and set lists that draw from their discography. With their never-ending energy and strongly loyal fans, PUP keeps changing while staying true to their roots in loud, defiant punk rock.
