Pimpinela (Spanish for "pimpernel") is the stage name of the Argentine singing duets Joaqun and Luca Galán, who have become noted for their distinctive take on traditional romance songs. They are one of the most successful groups in Latin music history, having sold over 15 million albums globally and over 12 million in Argentina alone.
Lucia and her brother Joaquin Roberto Galán Cuervo were born in the Argentine capital of Buenos Aires. Joaquin and Luca are two siblings of Spanish settler origin; more specifically, their father is from Asturia, and their mother is from Leon.
They began their musical careers by performing for their families and close friends, but subsequently, each sought a career independently. The band "Luna de Cristal" welcomed Joaqun as a new member. In 1981, the duo collaborated for the first time to create a song.
They had success with "Olvdame y pega la vuelta" in 1984. Others followed, and as they became more well-known, the duet became known for depicting couples who argue and eventually break up rather than fall in love.
Pimpinela's "2020: El Ao Que Se Detuvo el Tiempo," published in December 2020, features lyrics that address the emotional toll of a pandemic that had already lasted a year.
