Peelander-Z Information
Peelander-Z is a Japanese-American punk rock band from Austin, Texas, founded in 1998. The current lineup of the group consists of Kengo Hioki, a.k.a. Peelander Yellow (lead vocals and guitar), Ryo Tanaka, a.k.a. Peelander Green (drums),
Yumiko Kanazaki, a.k.a. Peelander Pink (keyboards, bass, and flashlight), and
Akiteru Ito, a.k.a. Peelander Purple (bass and backing vocals). Peelander Yellow, Peelander Red, and Peelander Blue were the band's first three members. Later band members maintained the same naming arrangement, with usually different colors; however, one moniker, Peelander Green, by two different drummers.
They appear on stage in color-coordinated costumes that they claim are not costumes but rather their skin. Sentai-style suits, kimonos, and rubber Playmobil-style wigs are among the costumes. To go along with the song "Mad Tiger," there's also a tiger costume and a big squid/guitar outfit. On-stage stunts like human bowling (falling head-first into bowling pins), pretending to hit one other with chairs in the style of pro-wrestlers, and mid-performance piggyback rides are all part of their act. They frequently invite audience members to engage in the excitement on stage, and they frequently dive into the audience or dangle from a balcony as part of their act.
