Pain of Salvation Information
Daniel Gildenlöw is the main songwriter, lyricist, guitarist, and vocalist for the Swedish progressive metal band Pain of Salvation. Some defining features of Pain of Salvation's music include riff-oriented guitar work, a wide vocal range, alternating heavy and peaceful periods, complex vocal harmonies, syncopation, and polyrhythms. They have only ever released concept albums thus far. The band's lyrics frequently touch on timely topics, including sexuality, war, the environment, and the connection between God, humanity, and existence.
The Beatles, Faith No More, Jeff Buckley, and Jesus Christ Superstar influence their music, as are jazz, classical music, and ethnic music; occasionally, hip-hop, soul, and funk components can be heard in their compositions as well. The band has also performed covers of songs by artists such as Leonard Cohen, Stevie Wonder, Kiss, Lou Reed, Dio, the Moody Blues, the Beatles, Simon & Garfunkel, and Elton John.
Entropia, Pain of Salvation's first album, was recorded in early 1997 and released by Avalon Records in Asia. Magdic's amicable departure reportedly threw the band off schedule as they prepared to record their second album because he was not ready to commit to the increased expectations that came with the band's early success. After recharging for a while, in March and July of 2000, Pain of Salvation recorded their third album, The Perfect Element, Part I.
