Owen Information
Owen is the solo project by Mike Kinsella, who originated from Chicago, Illinois, and is a big part of the Chicago indie rock scene. The music of the project is defined as indie rock, emo, math rock, singer-songwriter, and acoustic rock. Mike Kinsella has led the band American Football, as well as played in many other groups.
Owen is well-known due to its complex acoustics, combining lead acoustics with keyboard and other guitars, soft melodies, plaintive vocals, and drums. "Owen" is a debut album that was followed by 2002's No Good For No One Now. The third album by Owen was I Do Perceive, released in 2004. It was followed by At Home with Owen (2006) and New Leaves (2009). In July 2009, The Seaside EP was released via Polyvinyl Records. It was a collection of Owen songs that were previously only available as Japanese bonus tracks.
Some of the notable producers that worked with Owen are Graeme Gibson (Califone, Joan of Arc), Tim Iseler (Wilco, Teenage Fanclub), Brian Deck (Iron & Wine, Margot & the Nuclear So and So's), and a few more.
"Abandoned Bridges" was a single by Owen released in 2010. In April 2011, Kinsella released an EP named O, Evelyn. It was followed by Owen's album, Ghost Town, that came out in November of the same year. L'Ami du Peuple was another notable album that was released on July 2, 2013. Some of the other notable albums include Other People's Songs (2014), The King of Whys (2016), and The Avalanche (2020).
