Nathan and the Zydeco Cha-Chas Information
Nathan Williams (March 24, 1963) is an American zydeco singer, songwriter, and accordionist. He was born in St. Martinville, Louisiana. He has performed with the same group since forming Nathan & the Zydeco Cha-Chas in 1985. Williams chose the name for his group after hearing an instrumental by Chenier. At the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in 1988, Williams and the band made their festival debut.
In November 1992, the Cha Chas debuted at the New Orleans Rock n' Bowl. After the popularity of their shows, along with those of John Delafose and Beau Jocques, the venue started featuring zydeco bands on Thursday nights in the spring of 1993. Williams' live album from that night, titled I'm a Zydeco Hog: Live at the Rock 'N' Bowl, New Orleans, was released in 1997. In November 2018, the venue celebrated its 30th anniversary by hosting a concert featuring Nathan and the Zydeco Cha Chas.
Nathan & the Zydeco Cha Chas have performed together for almost 30 years. During that time, they visited many cities. They played everywhere, from his brother's convenience store in Lafayette, Louisiana, to the Lincoln Center in NYC to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee. At the 1996 Summer Games in Atlanta, the Cha Chas performed. He has performed worldwide, including in Austria, Spain, France, Japan, the Netherlands, Turkey, and Germany.
