Moonchild Information
Moonchild is a Los Angeles, California-based alternative R&B band. Amber Navran, Max Bryk, and Andris Mattson make up the band. A graduate of the Jazz Studies department at the USC Thornton School of Music, they are a formidable trio. In the summer of 2011, after Navran's last solo project toured the West Coast, he decided to form a band. The three became fast friends on the road because of their shared love of music, and they spent the summer and fall of their first full year together writing the songs that would become Be Free.
The album did well critically, and artists as diverse as Jill Scott, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Stevie Wonder sang its praises. In December 2012, after hearing the band's songs, Wonder asked them to open for him at his annual House Full of Toys benefit performance.
The band has released three additional albums and performed globally after 2012's Be Free was released on the British label Tru Thoughts. They've worked with other artists like Rapsody and Tall Black Guy on songs. In December 2019, Moonchild appeared on NPR's Tiny Desk Concert series. The band played each stop on their 2019 Little Ghost US Tour to raise awareness for local causes.
