Molotov Information
Molotov is a Mexican rock en espanol band. The current lineup of the group consists of Randall Ebright (drums, guitar, and vocals), Juan Francisco Ayala Gonzalez (bass, guitar, drums, and vocals), Miguel Angel Huidobro Preciado (bass, guitar, drums, and vocals), and Ismael Fuentes de Garay (guitar, bass, and vocals). The band was formed in 1995 in Mexico City. The band’s lyrics are usually rapped and sung by all the members of Molotov. It also features a mixture of English and Spanish. The members switch roles and instruments depending on their performance.
Molotov played in different underground locations in Mexico City through 1996. They also started gaining a small group of fans. After they opened for La Lupita in Puebla and Heroes del Silencio in Monterrey, the band gained more success. During one of the concerts, the band opened for Illya Kuryaki and The Valderrama. Molotov released its debut album entitled, ¿Dónde Jugarán las Niñas?, in July 1997.
The music of Molotov incorporates different elements of punk rock, dance-pop, disco, pop, funk, and hip hop into their musical style. It has also been classified as rock en Espanol, thrash metal, Latin rock, rap rock, post-grunge, alternative rock, rap metal, and hard rock.
During 2000, Molotov was a part of the Watcha Tour that included 17 shows with A.N.I.M.A.L, Cafe Tacuba, Aterciapeldos, and Los Enanitos Verdes. The band also released its new album in 2003 entitled Dance and Dense Denso. The album featured the Grammy-winning single “Frijolero.” The single became the band’s biggest hit to date.
