Moist Information
Moist is a Canadian rock band. The group's current lineup consists of Jonathan Gallivan, Francis Fillion, Jeff Pearce, Kevin Young, Mark Makoway, and David Usher. The band recorded nine songs at 8th Avenue Sound Studio with engineer Kevin Hamilton 1993 for a demo tape. Modern Seattle bands like Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, and Alice in Chains impacted their sound.
The band released the 500-tape cassette with no name. The employees at the flagship Sam, the Record Man location in Vancouver, encouraged the band. Sam the Record Man, a small independent music retailer, charted the tape at No. 1. Sam the Record Man's national independent chart featured the release in its top 10 and was disseminated to other stores in the national network. Moist's deal with EMI Music Publishing Canada began in 1993. Most of 1993 was spent on tour across Canada and in the studio composing new material for a larger release.
They spent $3,000 Canadian to finish their first full-length record in January 1994. Silver was the name of the album, and it was released on February 8, 1994. Moist's album sold nearly 6,000 copies in six weeks after MuchMusic began playing the music video for the first track, "Push," in medium rotation. The group had inked a deal with EMI Music Canada by March 1994.
