Michael Sweet Information
Michael Harrison Sweet (July 4, 1963) is a guitarist and singer from Whittier, California. He is well-known as the lead guitarist, co-founder, writer, lead singer, and frontman of the Christian metal band called “Stryper.” He initiated his career in the 1980s when he, along with his brother, formed a group called Roxx Regime, playing in small venues at that time. Their newbie band also challenged the stereotype of heavy metal that is satanic and brought back Christian rock in the mainstream.
After almost nine years as the lead singer and lead guitarist for Stryper, Sweet left the band in 1992 to pursue his solo career. Sweet released a demo album entitled “Unstryped.” The album featured several songs with some of the tracks being included in what he would eventually publish as his full-length album. In 1994, he released his debut self-titled album and sold over 250,000 copies. In 1996, Sweet released another album named “Real.” The album earned him a nomination for the Dove Award.
Sweet has also made a few guest appearances throughout his career such as he appeared on 1 2 (EYE) (1989), Voices in the Night (1992), Free at Last (1992), Welcome to the Revolution (2004), and Onward to Freedom (2014). The major studio albums that he released as a solo artist include Truth (demo) (October 30, 1998), Truth (Official) (2000), Him (August 1, 2006), Touched (November 30, 2007), and I’m Not Your Suicide (May 6, 2014).
