Metronomy Information
Metronomy is an English electronic music group. The group's current lineup consists of Michael Lovett, Olugbenga Adelekan, Anna Prior, Oscar Cash, and Joseph Mount. Metronomy was started by Joseph Mount in his bedroom when he was an adolescent, still living at home with his parents in Devon. A lifelong lover of music, he "played drums in a few high school ensembles that eventually disbanded. When I was around 16 or 17, I inherited my dad's ancient computer and began experimenting with it ".
Mount came up with the moniker Metronomy, which is said to have been inspired by the names of bands like Autechre and Funkstörung. Mount relocated to Brighton in 2002 to further his education and has since worked various irregular jobs, including at the local HMV. In his free time after college, he started "soundtracking animations," or composing music specifically for animated shorts. Mount became active in Brighton's electronic music scene and started spinning records as a Jockey there.
Metronomy's first album, Pip Paine (Pay the £5,000 You Owe), was released in the fall of 2005, and the album's lead song, "You Could Easily Have Me," had been released in the summer. Mount's live performances gained popularity after initially receiving scant coverage. Metronomy began as basically a laptop/DJ act, but Mount soon enlisted the help of his cousin Oscar Cash and an old school friend named Gabriel Stebbing.
